RECLAIMING LITERATURE CIRCLES: CELEBRATING THE BEAUTY OF CHILD-LED DISCUSSIONS (FORTHCOMING)
Students can, regardless of age, race, gender, or socio-economic background, have developmentally appropriate and meaningful discussions with their peers on their own for extended periods of time. It is when we take away responsibility that they lose the desire, the desire to read and care. Students can choose their own books. They can hold independent discussions on their own. They can do more than many think they can. We, as educators, have to guide them. Teachers need courage to allow students to feel independence, creativity, and choice. This book will provide teachers with the courage necessary to empower their students.
